Why so much screen space for tasks?

With the new Tasks implementation, why do they need to take up so much real estate?
All these margins add nothing to the feature other than to use up a lot of space for nothing.

I have added the checklists below for comparison, and I already have my screen zoomed out as the entire UI is too big (in my opinion).

Also once you add labels on to these they take up even more space.
